Color Matching

Paint retailers are able to produce a computer-generated color formula that closely matches an original color source (piece of painted drywall, swatch of fabric, etc.). This service is very helpful when paint brand, color name/number are not known. However, the matching process may not provide an absolutely perfect match.

So, small-area "spot painting" is generally not recommended in high-visibility areas. Instead, consider repainting an entire wall with the matched color. This will likely provide an excellent result in the context of the entire room. Lighting variations and shadows often help to minimize minor color differences.

Paint Products We Recommend

There are many well recognized, quality interior paint brands on the market. Two we highly recommend - and use almost exclusively - are Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore. Both brands boast excellent hide, coverage, durability and wash-ability across their products.

Within the brands, we have highlighted three products for standard wall painting. All are fine paints and produce great results when applied as recommended.

• Benjamin Moore Regal Select

Each is rated as a low-VOC product (volatile organic compounds). Additionally, these three product lines contain anti-microbial agents to help inhibit the growth of mold and mildew. All come in Flat, Matte, Satin and Semi-Gloss finishes. In addition, Regal Select offers an Eggshell finish. All are paint-and-primer products.
